Evolution meets revolution: the hybride wing

Compared to its predecessor, the technology of the new hybrid wing has been greatly improved. The wing of the New Generation Parasailor is noticeably more compact in its external dimensions. The most striking feature is the combination of a long, forward-extending upper cloth and a shorter lower cloth. In this way, the upper cloth forms a single-layer fabric wing section at the end of the wing. The result is a hybrid design that combines both an air-pressurized section and a single-layer wing section. This provides several important advantages over the classic Parasailor wing.

Angle of attack and camber

The larger angle the wing makes with the plane and the greater camber of the hybrid wing provide significantly more lift and shape stability. In addition to the increased resistance and therefore propulsion of the hybrid wing, this technique also ensures that the wing sets into shape more quickly. This results in higher performance in very light wind conditions, starting from as little as 2–3 knots of true wind, depending on course and waves.

The projected wing size

The new wing design ensures that the hybrid wing protrudes less forward. As a result, the New Generation Parasailor is clearly easier to stow. Thanks to the reduced resistance of the wing in the Easysnuffer funnel, the sail can be packed away faster and with less effort. This further increases safety and comfort on board.

Integrated mesh in the wing openings

New in the hybrid wing is the mesh that has been placed in the influx side. This construction improves the shape of this side of the wing and makes it possible to design a larger inflow opening. The integration of the mesh also leads to higher internal pressure in the wing and thus better airflow around the outside of the wing profile.

Active valve flaps

Whereas in the wing of the classic Parasailor the pressure is built up through a difference in size between the inflow and outflow openings, the new hybrid wing uses valve flaps. These actively control the retention or release of pressure inside the wing. While sailing, the valve flaps keep the pressure inside the wing, allowing pressure to build up earlier and more effectively. As a result, the wing assumes its correct shape more quickly. The load distribution is stronger, and the airflow around the profile is improved.

Dousing

During dousing, when the Easysnuffer funnel is pulled over the wing, the flaps open, allowing the built-up pressure to escape through the larger outflow opening more quickly than before. As a result, hoisting and dousing the New Generation Parasailor can be done faster and with less physical effort, making it even easier and safer.
