Ease of use

Operation and Ease of Use of the Parasailor

Basically, the Parasailor is sailed just like a regular spinnaker or gennaker. When used without a pole, it is ideal to employ double sheets. This second set of sheets runs over the bow, allowing the symmetrical Parasailor to be gybed directly from the cockpit.

For this, it is desirable to have an attachment point for the tack lines in front of the pulpit. Many (modern) yachts already have a gennaker attachment point on the anchor fitting or bow, along with a recessed pulpit. In some cases, it may be necessary to add a small gennaker bowsprit to allow free gybing behind the Parasailor. We are happy to provide advice on this.

Thanks to the reduced leverage, the rigging can withstand significantly more wind. The loads are transferred to the sheets. Therefore, make sure to use sufficiently strong sheets for your Parasailor. For nearly all yachts, we recommend 12 mm sheets with a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 10 kg per square meter of Parasailor. For example, with a 125 m² Parasailor, sheets with an SWL of 1250 kg are required.

No spinnaker pole

In general, a spinnaker pole is not required when sailing with a Parasailor. This means you only need to go to the foredeck for hoisting and dousing—offering extra comfort and safety. On long (ocean) passages with swell, there is a method to easily and safely connect a pole to your Parasailor. This allows the stability of the Parasailor to be transferred even more effectively to your yacht, resulting in calmer motion. On catamarans, you never need a pole thanks to the two hulls.

Thanks to the wing, the Parasailor always remains calm and stable in the wind. Increasingly we see customers who have sailed around the world without ever using a pole.

Easysnuffer

The aerodynamically optimized Parasailor, in combination with the Easysnuffer sleeve, is very easy to use. During dousing, the wing is quickly and effectively “deflated” for even greater convenience.

Its ease of use, wide range of applications, safety, durability, and enhanced sailing comfort have led countless yachts to adopt the Parasailor as their universal downwind sail.

Autopilot

The Parasailor can be used perfectly in combination with a self-steering system. It works best when the self-steering system is set to the apparent wind and is strong enough to maintain course in waves. While all sails are sensitive to the correct wind angle, the Parasailor’s forgiving nature makes it less sensitive than any other downwind sail.

Racing

The Parasailor has been officially approved as a racing sail in all IRC classes and also in the ORC-Club since the 2006 season. Its advantages are particularly evident in races with a small crew and long courses, especially in stronger and gusty winds.

For short-course racing, the use of the Parasailor is less suitable, as it requires sailing with the Easysnuffer.
